Thanks for all who responded to my question of how to connect GPS points to create a line shapefile: Paul Ramsey, Eric Olson, Gillian Woolmer, Chris Bertinato, Nicholas Lindenber, Jerome Perkin, Dewet Bosenberg, B.J. Tetreault. Some suggestions I got were: Use the ArcView 3.x extension "TxtTool.avx" to convert x,y coordinates to polygons; more than one person told me ot use the script called pt_ln_pl.ave; others thought the xtools extension would work. I tried some of them and got errors. Some people asked me what brand of GPS unit was used - but I had no idea. The one that ended up working for me was from Mathias Tobler, and it is a script written for tracking animal movement from the web site http://www.absc.gov/glba/gistools/ The only problem I had was when I finished I had a spider-web of lines because my original text file contained several different continuous lines, but of course the program didn't know that and connected all of them together. Just a little editing and I got exactly what I needed. Thanks everyone- Beth Bennett GIS Analyst California Department of Transportation
